ROMA: TARGET IS CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Monday, February 20th, 2012

Roma director Walter Sabatini has said that the main focus of Roma this season is qualifying for the Champions league. Roma had a very poor start to the season, but they are back into the race for the Champions League after a string of good results recently. Even though the prospect of winning the title may be beyond Roma, the club’s director Walter Sabatini has said that qualifying for the Champions League is a very important aspect for Roma this season. Roma currently on the seventh place in the Italian Serie A table. Despite the impressive victory over Inter Milan recently, they still remain way behind the Champions League places.

Roma have 35 points on the board after having played 23 games this season, while Lazio are the club occupying the final Champions League position now. They have 42 points on the board after having played the same number of matches. Even though the seven-point advantage may seem insignificant, Lazio have been one of the best teams in the Italian Serie A this season. Hence, Walter Sabatini has said that it is vital for Roma to keep in touch with Lazio in order to have a realistic chance of finishing in the Champions League position.

“Roma must aim high, there is no doubt. We must do so immediately. If we had left Siena with the three points we would already be there to fight. But all is not lost and we will not give up, the Champions League is the goal for which we will fight until the end. We must always aspire to play our new brand of football,” Roma director Walter Sabatini said ahead of this week’s match with Parma. Parma are in the 12th place in the Italian Serie A, but come on the back of a good run of form.
